WE usually take what the weather people tell US with a large pinch of salt.. but WE believe them today, they forecasted winds gusting up 60 mph in our area and they were right.
The enormous space between the garden and the Thames is flat.. very flat.. and old wind has plenty of time to get his speed up and do his worst, it was simply dreadful today and SHE got very grumpy.
So it is a true love that SHE has for those Goaty folk for SHE wouldn't travel for an hour by bus and tube to pick a bag of Rosemary for anyone else, that's for sure!
SHE picked Rosemary, a bag of herbs, some Perpetual Spinach, plundered the Asparagus bed and then found, to HER joy, the big sheet of clear corrugated plastic which made an excellent cover for the poor Tomatoes.. who looked at HER as if to say "YOU didn't tell us about the wind?"
SHE apologised profusely, gave them lots of water and fixed the cover into place.
Then planted lots of Lettuce seedlings, wound
string around bamboo sticks as support for Broad / Fava Beans, spoke kindly to the Peas and was about to leave when 'somebody' caught HER eye!
In the little bed underneath 'Concorde' Pear SHE planted a 'Sarah Bernhardt' Peony last autumn, SHE is doing well for a baby Peony but who was this shy little flower beside her?
Why.. a Strawberry flower! Goodness ME, she's a bit ahead of herself, that's for sure! SHE weeded very carefully around the little plant, I know WE said SHE was going to get rid of the old plants but YOU can't dig someone up who is that willing to grow!
SHE had had enough, so left to catch the bus, getting off at North End Road to go and buy a cooked chicken, some olives, a bottle of OUR favourite olive oil, some humous and more cashews for ME.
The nice girl behind the till said "ooooh, you look so very tired" and gave HER something to eat.. some folk are kind.
WE've just had chicken, olives, salad and the last scrapings from Ellie's Goaty Curd.. and now.. WE are in bed. For.. as Beatrix put it so cleverly..
"SHE was worn to a ravel and could do no more".
GeeGee Parrot.
