What utter rubbish.. tell that to a Bluebell! Which stupid 'fashionista' dreamt that saying up?
It is as bad as YOU should never put lilac and pink together.. THANK GOODNESS for Emilio Pucci who took not one iota of notice of these stupid sayings.. and mixed all the colours of the rainbow to great effect!
Talking about lilac and pink.. WE have directly across the street from OUR house a glorious sight! It is a Lilac tree and directly next to it is a very beautiful, double Rhododendron. The Lilac is the traditional, not too dark, purple and the Rhodie.. hohoho.. she is bright sugar candy floss, teeth shattering pink.
The combination of these two colours makes HER heart sing and SHE remembers very well the day they were planted.
In the flat above HER used to live a very elderly couple, they had lived in the house for all of their married life, fifty years!
The week they decided that they were going to leave the flat and head for the hills in France, from whence she came, they told HER that they would like to plant a couple of trees to commemorate their life here.
SHE arranged with the 'Gardens' gardener for him to dig two suitably big holes, their friends from the 'Gardens' came to the planting party and a couple
of people organised drinks and eats.
Peregrine planted the Rhodie and Yvonne planted the Lilac, a copper label was attached to each tree giving their story.
That was in the Spring of 1983.. Peregrine and Yvonne are now with Constance and Hugo in
God's own garden in the sky but those trees bring delight to HER every Spring and SHE remembers HER 'upstairs' neighbours with great affection.
Thirty years ago, Dear Readers, time has, indeed flown. SHE came here in 1975, thirty eight years
ago.
I am not yet nine years old.. these lengths of time are almost inconcievable to ME.. Hugo died in 1981, darling Madge in 1994, 'Miss' Betty & Constance in 2002, Hay darling & Bill in 2003 and Dagga-the-Parrot in 2004.
SHE has planted trees for everyone.. I wonder if anyone will look at these trees in thirty years time?
And on that reflective note. I am off to pay hommage to a pot of humous.
GeeGee Parrot.
