BIG SURPRISE..

I would have bet a Reddy or two that SHE was going to have a Pizza.. but no, SHE went first to Dickinsons and bought two trays for £2.00 of Chicken bones and carcasses.. WE make our own stock and soups in this house, this week it is Chick-the-lick time.

Then off almost next door to Lubbley-Jubbley Fishmonger.. YOU got it!  Fresh Squiddley-Diddley comes in today.. he allows HER to pick through the tray, he is such a nice man and his 'boys' are too.

Theee bigger Squiddley for their ink and three much smaller ones, NO fat on Squid that is for sure!  But what is this.. fat slice of red meat.. not red meat? TUNA!  Oooh.. such a treat!

In basket were fresh Sorrel, Spinach and Perpetual Cabbage leaves, SHE had dug up a few carrots, an old Parsley.. not for it's leaves but for the root.. why, YOU will see later. SHE pulled a small Leek and had headed for home before it started to rain in earnest.

But SHE had had a very 'good' day.. The weed suppresant fabric had done the job on a tricky bed which always sprouted grass.. this time nothing had grown through and digging it over revealed very few roots of any size.

Suprisingly though, the rain has not gone very far down into the earth.  Even though it rained all of Sunday, most of Monday and all last night, four inches below the surface is still dry and dusty soil!

SHE turned over five beds, planted seven rows of Garlic and will plant more tomorrow of a different variety, this variety that SHE will plant tomorrow is murch stronger.. it would kill vampires at ten paces!

SHE has to get rest of those onions in, Red and Yellow are already planted, now for the white. And SHE has to do a surface clip on the lavender bushes.. all of them!  That is a labour of lurve.. How many does SHE have? Probably about thirty! Long job.

Home.. sliced Tuna with Wasabi... look of delight on HER face was something to behold.. ME, No thanks, I will wait for Mister Squiddley..

Chicken carcasses into smaller of the two very large stock pans, plus all the root vegetables.. including ole Parsley Root!  Another ole and wrinkly Celeriac... lots of water, pepper, no salt.

Onto boil until WE go to bed and then again tomorrow. Bones do make best stock and delicious soup-da-a-loupa.. AND WE lurve it with Risottos, Bulgar Wheat or coarse Semolina..

What a thoroughly 'nice' day.. SHE chatted with 'the Birthday Gurl' aka Joanna, got lots of work done at garden, did food shopping, it appears SHE has put US onto a strict budget.. because of having to pay out money for Little Shed repairs.. there will be NO Pizzas.. only eating at home for three weeks!..

That is ok with ME.. For I don't get to go to Pizza place.. I lurve HER cooking.. luckily.

Off to wash up.. well.. watch HER load dishwasher and stir dem bones in de pot.. den it is bed times for US dollies.. I know, I know WE go to bed very, very early in this house.

SHE works EIGHT THOUSAND SQUARE FEET of garden, SHE is tired.  SHE is old to be scampering about like SHE does.. SHE is sixty two and still digging!

And as for ME.. it is dark, way past MY bed time.

GeeGee Parrot.

  1. Yes, indeed. Good ol' homemade chicken stock. Never have enough. So easy & aromatic to prepare.

I'll bet SHE already knows about and prepares a delicacy I only discovered this last June in France: pickled garlic toes. Does SHE prepare these? If so, what spices does she use in the pickling solution?
