WWW.NWEDIBLE.COM & THE LITTLE PRINTED RIBBON COMPANY.. BECAUSE WE'RE STUCK AT HOME.. YOU'RE BENEFITTING FROM OUR ENFORCED IDLENESS.

We think this blog is great.. www.nwedible.com. A recent post was on fermentation and we love fermented food! Why? Well, if you have a sluggish digestion or any problems like bloating, slow digestion, wind aka gas, then fermented foods will greatly benefit you.

Because they help to rebalance the natural and good bugs in your digestive system which are vital.

Germany, Poland, other eastern european countries too numerous to mention and France eat huge quantities of fermented cabbage and if you are surprised by me writing France, contrary to what a lot of people think, the chou in 'mon petite chou' refers to a creme bun, NOT to a cabbage!

If you have unpleasant memories of eating over-boiled cabbage at school, then get your feet walking to a green grocer and buy any sort of crisp, fresh looking cabbage, there are several varities and bring it home. Depending on the variety of cabbage you purchase, either loose leaf or tightly curled, there are different ways to treat them.

Don't, if you have a tightly furled one, just chop it in half or quarter it if you only want a little. Cut off a couple of leaves from the base and leave the cabbage intact, she slices a tiny bit off the base and plops it into a shallow bowl with a little water, this keeps it fresh. This way we have a crisp vegetable which lasts a good length of time and there is no wastage.

Put a saucepan on to boil with about an inch of water and add a generous pinch of salt, curl the leaves together, slice them finely and please include the thick stems which are deliciously crunchy, she also puts in a finely chopped onion or shallot at the same time.

The leaves have a MAXIMUM of three minutes on a fast boil with a lid on the pan, the saucepan is taken off the heat, the water is drained into a mug, yes, she always drinks vegetable water, old habits never die!

Leaving the cabbage in the pan, pour on a little drizzle of good olive oil, grind fresh pepper OR some Caribbean Jerk spice - if you've been quick enough to get some already from Mamy Sugarcraft! Hey, they're talking about MY BLOG on their Facebook page.. HOW ABOUT THAT.

The leaves will be the most glorious colour! And the taste will be nothing like that 'School Cabbage', I promise you that!

Anyway, back to www.nwedible.com, the blog writer generously gives a great recipe for fermented cabbage. Meanwhile back home at this ranch, she cheats, because she gets our and Debbie's weekly supply of Fermented Summer Salad with fresh Dill, aka IshPol, from Bartek Express on the Central Parade, Streatham. She also buys two pots of fresh and NON vinegary Sauerkraut, oh, I love the crunchiness of this!

The last time cousin Bruce came to stay, they ran about all over London getting him into lots of haberdashers and places to take his ribbons.. more details on these later in THIS post.

This time they'll visit such emporiums such as Bartek Express, he didn't get to taste IshPol, which he must, and she'll take him to Baldwin's, the Herbalist on Walworth Road at Elephant & Castle, they'll have lunch at Langoons, the Asian Foodmarket almost opposite Baldwins and visit the new (to her) floor in her Chinese, Japanese, Korean supermarket in Chinatown that she's just found. It has always been there, of course, but she'd never poked her nose around the corner before and seen the staircase.

THE LITTLE PRINTED RIBBON COMPANY make glorious ribbons! About five Christmas's ago, she gave friends and family gifts of metres of printed ribbons, a couple of people knew what they were getting because she asked them what colour ribbon, printing and text they wanted, talk about a bespoke gift! Her two nieces got 'With love from Mummy & Daddy', these ribbons can then be used for any gift.

She had two ribbon printed for us, one was a silver ribbon with scarlet script and the other was scarlet ribbon with silver script. You can have whatever you want! How about that for service! There are lots of other things that they produce, but they're too many for us to list here!

But YOU, Dear Readers, can ask Bruce by emailing him direct on: foilprinters@manx.net. He will send you samples of diferent printed ribbons so you can choose exactly what you want. Wherever you are in the world, you too can have beautifully bespoke printed ribbons made for any occasion, such as: Birthday, Christening, Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, Wedding. Now, don't say that we don't give you anything.

The numpties leave at 16.15, so that we can have access to the bathroom and dress, they're back tomorrow but as Scarlet so wisely said "Tomorrow is another day".

GeeGee Parrot.
