Being wide awake in the middle of the night is a tiresome thing.. but strange things happen and the latest thing will make you laugh!
She received an email which caused her to go back and 'examine' the title of a recent post and yes, it's true, the title of the post 'Apricots in Rum and Cherries in Vodka' does indeed fit very well if you sing the words of all the title to the tune of 'A few of my favourite things' from the Sound of Music.
Quite daft.. what hope is there for me with a mother like this? Ah well.. onwards mes amis, onwards!
She was reading serious stuff on a subject very close to my heart, the science of creaming butter and sugar together. The common mistake that a lot of people make is that they use butter that is the wrong temperature. Butter should not be too warm otherwise it'll 'snuff' the air out of the mix.
This is an excellent website for technical stuff that you should know about as to why some baked items are better than others that you make, don't worry, you don't have to have a science degree to understand it. But as 'clever clogs' cleared her history searches this morning, the website I want to give you might not be in this post.. sigh.
Phew, it's ok, she remembered that she had clicked it onto Favourites, now go and look at Carrie's great Blog for this is where she rushes when she wishes to find a really good recipe for grub!
Yes, reallyreally great grub! The recipe that caught her eye today is this.. Orange Olive Oil Cake with Candied Walnuts.. COR, doesn't that sound just simply fabulous?
Go on, rush off, abandon me, find it, 'bookmark' it, come back immediately, if not sooner. Here's the website address.

She had a happy day today, she met up with Ann at South Kensington Underground and they walked over to the V&A, first stop lunch and a lengthy chat, then went off to the Fabric of India exhibition. She flashed her Membership card which allows her to take in a guest free of charge.
Ooh, the first thing onto which your eye alights is a Floor Covering.. it is huge.. glorious.. beautiful and ancient. The exhibition is / was full of all manner of cloth, silk, cotton and wool items, too many to absorb in one visit, she'll go back, that's the glory of being a Friend of Museums, you can, and she does, stroll into any gallery or brand new exhibion FREE even if it is only for a few minutes.
A tea break called and as it had stopped raining and it is unseasonably warm still considering it is the first week of December, they sat and drank their teas in fresh warm air seated in the inner courtyard behind the Henry Cole wing.
Then went in again to see the exhibition of jewellery from Al Thani of Qatar and (our) HM The Queen's Royal Collection. The exhibition has been sponsored by Wartski, the famous company who are the Faberge experts. Of particular interest were the extraordinarily huge Spinels and Emeralds.
Mind blowing is not too strong a phrase to describe these pieces.
After a quick pit stop to spend a penny, they took a quick peek into the new gallery which opened to Museums' Friends, aka members, today. A mix of everything is here but the two things she loved was a carved stone frame and a Delft coffee pot. What restrained elegance, it would pour perfectly, the balance being exquisite and the colour as fresh as when it was made in the fifth decade of the 17th Century.
Time to put Ann onto a little C1 bus to Victoria and for her to walk home down Yeoman's Row, she passed by her lovely Lebanese friend's house but of them, there was no sign, the boiler flue wasn't puffing steam, no lights were on and no windows were open.. no one at home, maybe they've all still in Paris.
We've just watched the first part of the semi-finals of Professional Masterchef. Joey and Josh didn't make it through.
GeeGee Parrot.
