TAKE THE MONEY, NO, OPEN THE BOX.. FRENCH AIR TRAFFIC STRIKE AGAIN & THANK YOU TO MARCUS.

If you lived in Britain in the 1950's you might remember a television show called 'Take Your Pick', it started as a radio show on Radio Luxembourg and transferred over to television when ITV, the first commercial television channel was formed and started broadcasting in 1955.

The contestants were given a choice, at the end of answering yes or no to questions, of taking the money or opening a box.. the audience were the people shouting out one or the other.. hence Take the money.. No, open the box!

Sometimes the contents of the box were significantly worth much more than the amount of money, so the choice was a tough one and sometimes there would be a 'really damp squid' aka nothing valuable.

It ran until 1968, then stopped and started again in the '90's with Des O'Connor. But by that time she had ceased watching this sort of quiz show.

However, when you are eight ~ which is how old she was when her family first got a television, a black and white square heavy box with an indoor aerial which you had to jiggle about in order to pick up the signal ~ watching ANYTHING is exciting and she was allowed to watch about half an hour after eating her supper and going to bed.

Favourites were 'Rawhide' with Clint Eastweed and Dixon of Dock Green, the first 'Cop' programme. To Rosamund in Australia, "hey-up, do you remember these?"

Back to today's world..

Well.. the evil bastards.. aka French Air Traffic Contol.. are at it again.. striking for two days, each year they do it a little earlier, I'm really quite surprised they didn't do it over the Easter holidays! But WOE betide anyone looking to plan a peaceful Summer holiday.

Some airlines are taking huge detours so that they don't have to fly through French Air Space, which is alright if you ARE planning to go to Portugal or Germany but what about people flying to cities which are close to French borders and who is going to pay for added cost of extra aviation fuel?

The sooner this direct fast train link to Marseilles starts the better.. she much prefers travelling by train.

First of all, you leave from the centre of the city, so there's no having to travel out to an airport, the trains usually leave on time ~ except in the UK where the quality of rail services has deteriorated dramatically ~ and there is no fart-arsing about with waiting in some gruesome place for two hours between 'check in' and departure.

AND THE REALLYREALLY BIG PLUS IS.. Your luggage travels with you, there is no possibility of some scum-bag airport worker.. aka baggage handler.. being able to rifle through your luggage in order to nick stuff, you are not limited in weight NOR are you told you can't travel on a flight because you've two pieces of hand luggage, which is what happened to a teenager at Stansted Airport recently.

And then, guess what? You arrive in the centre of the city or at your destination, you get off the train, and you have your luggage with you, no waiting about whilst baggage handlers ~ who are also known to strike ~ take your cases off the plane and throw them onto conveyor belts, which also may or may not be working, then you have to walk onto the next form of transport with a trolley with dodgy wheels.

Take a train.. feel no pain.. but.. of course.. there is always the possibility, especially in the UK, that "Engineering works are planned and the entire south-western network will be severely distrupted and bus replacement will be in operation" which was the 'happy' news she received when we tried to get away to Wiltshire to spend Easter with Michelle and Peter.

But seeing as the Easter week-end weather was as cold as a witches tit and that Spring has only now just sprung, maybe, just maybe, it was for the best!

Got to go, there's much work to be done, stamps to be obtained for Tereza, we can't loll about all day, much as I'd like to.. PipPip, Dear Readers.

BUT, before I go, I want to say "Thank you to Dear Reader Marcus for commenting on the Lidl post.. YES.. please do call their Customer Service, for it transpires that Rivercote is a Lidl company, so it is LIDL themselves who have stopped making their Sunflower Rye Bread".

GeeGee Parrot.
