Yes.. Spring has rolled into town! Finally, what took it so long? Here has it been lolling about? We know it has not been in Illinois or Bulgaria, Tereza reported snow from Bulgaria over the Easter holiday and Pegeen has reported that Spring has been cancelled in their neck of the woods in Illinois!
How grim that would be, the plants and the animals will get very confused, I would too if we didn't have this warming-up period before Summer shimmied down out of nowhere.
I have to report that our pretty sitting room is no more, it is still there but every surface that is level is holding a seed tray with a lid on it. Yes, folks, it's seed growing time here in deepest Knightbridge.
There are already two trays of red Beetroots growing. She forgot to order seeds for the yellow ones before and hopes that if she 'forces' them at home in a propagator, they will oblige her and grow.
French beans, dwarf and climbing, Broad (Fava) beans, String beans, peas, mange-tout, courgettes (zucchini) in yellow and green, lots and lots of different types of lettuce. Several pots of yellow patty pan squash, we adore these little flying saucers. Lots of pots of Sweet Peas, how she loves their smell!
Purple sprouting broccoli. Sunflowers of various colours and heights. Swiss chard, spinach, rocket, landcress, I can't remember what else. The Chinese vegetable seeds will be planted next.
We are Singing With Dementia on Friday in Streatham. This gives her two days to go the garden if the weather is good, I will stay at home, she has work to do some way from the shed which is where my big cage is located and as someone has already has climbed the fence before, I only go when she is working on the terrace or in little shed.
But it is ok, I doze or listen to LBC, look at my bald tumtum and hope (and pray) that the feathers will grow back.. We do hope that you enjoyed the true tale of Harry and Juana Smith?
Of course, if she is gardening then that means she will not be making Turkish Delight, with pomegranates or any other way, she did get the missing ingredient today, so come a time when life is quiet and she is prepared to do it.. we'll rustle up both of the recipes and report back.
Meanwhile.. we've got to sing a song and we want ALL of you to join in.. yes, all of you.. we KNOW you know the words.. it's the birthday song.. and we are going to sing it to her Big Cousin Bruce..
"Happy Birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Bruce, happy birthday to you".
He's achieved half a century as they say in cricket speak. "HAVE A GUD DAY BRUCE". Take a holiday.. No, buy a bed, you'll only get this 'joke' if you are English and very old, which she is.
Apples, almonds and games on her bed are a'calling. She's singing "See you later alligator.. in a while crocodile", I told you she's old!
