She fell amongst thieves aka friends on her way to get some chores done!
Between our home and the bus stop, there lies the charming home of her beloved Lebanese friend, who just happened to be standing in her front door way this afternoon as she passed by, many kisses and hugs were exchanged, why, you would think they hadn't seen each other for months!
'Somehow' she found herself sitting at the kitchen table drinking delicious coffee and eating all sorts and manner of yumyum.. which was not planned at all! But she did managed to make the dentist on time and slip in having her hair cut before going back for a late tea!
So we can tick a couple of things off the list.. but it's not going down very fast, she'll have to do a lot of work tomorrow to finish all her chores before Friday morning. But at least her hair looks pretty and presentable, she's looked a 'trifle' wild and woolly for the past week or two.
Now she's got a sleek bob which she will allow to grow a couple of inches.. then, most likely.. she'll get bored with it and say to them.. "Chop it all off and give me an Eton Crop!"
Her hairdresser combed through her hair, which he had last seen dark brown, and he asked her who had done the colour change because it's been done so beautifully, he smiled when she said that she'd had it done at L'Oreal and nodded, saying that it must have taken them many hours to do it.
So she a very happy camper and Bruce's present DID get there, which was another good thing that has happened, we don't give it very long in his fridge, he loves what she sent him!
Every seed has now germinated, there is a mini forest of greenery waving their arms about on our sitting room window sill, one tray of seedlings has already gone outside. The others will go out tomorrow in the day time but will come back in at night.
The great thing about being on an allotment is there is always someone to give a pot of whatever to if you have grown too many of one particular variety, but WHO could ever have too many baby Broad / Fava Beans! She likes them dropped into boiling water for less than a minute, then tossed in olive oil with crushed garlic on top of Fusili pasta.. So do I.. for they are very slurpy-durpy stuff.
She loves to give fresh herbs and vegetables to friends. And, of course, her favourite thing is to give big bunches of home grown Flowers. She recalls going to a very smart luncheon a few years ago in Eaton Square.
It was a girlfriend's fiftieth birthday party and there were, as you can imagine, gifts galore and lots of bunches of flowers from London' most expensive florists.. she, meanwhile, had gone out at the crack of dawn to the allotment and picked thirty stems of her tall double, pale pink Peonies which have a heavenly fragrance.
Louisa took one look at this huge bunch of, gave her the most enormous hug, and went out of the room. Her housekeeper came back in with them in a massive vase, cleared off a spot on a sofa table and everyone said "wow.. WHERE did you get those?" and as Louisa came back into the room, she said "I'd lay a bet that she picked them at some ungodly hour this morning, darling girl, they're just divine, thank you".
That, Dear Readers, is why one gardens, for the pleasure and scrummydumptious yumyum you grow with no chemicals.
Our babies won't go out there to the allotments this week as we are due for a couple of crackingly hot days and they would fry in less than twelve hours, so they'll stay at home until they're a big stronger. She brushes her hand very gently over all seedlings, like being gently blown by the wind, it has the effect of making their stems stronger.
So another day has rolled by.. Bruce is now fifty.. my goodness me. We hope he's had a lovely time and that the family gave him a great day, when did you say Steve and Francesca were going to Italy or more to the point, when are they coming BACK with our supply of chocolate from Ferraro?
Goodnight to you all.. "say goodnight Dick".. who remembers that? It was way before I was born!
