Good day to you all and why are we saying 'back home at barracks' instead of 'back home on the ranch'?
Well, the Green Army is still here at home and although the sky is blue and old Mr. Sun has his torch fully charged, she is working today at the shop, they're confined to barracks until she takes them out to the allotment.
For those of you who are wondering why she had to have an MRI, it is because she has recently lost a significant amount of hearing in her right ear. They had to scan her because there is a possibility of a 'growth' interfering with auditory nerves.
Let's us move swiftly onto happier subjects.. like how much work she has to do at the allotments!
GULP.. there is LOTS of work to do.. she's just come across a bunch of photos that she took in June of 2009. They show an immaculate terrace with not one weed in sight.. sigh. The raised beds were bursting with beans and peas etec, etc!
She has much catch-up to do.. plus a lot of wood has to be replaced around several of the raised beds, she will not use 'treated' wood as the chemicals they use are not what you want touching the earth that you are growing your vegetables in.
So, after nearly fourteen years, the wood has rotted and has to be replaced. Whilst she is doing it, she is going to raise the level of the smaller beds. The larger beds are edged with scaffold planks, a full sized plank is just over 13', a good length for a long narrow bed.
She and Dean will have to do a run to the local timber yard and get a load. She would have called upon Portuguese Jorge.. so called because there was a Jorge who was from Madeira.. but he isn't driving an estate car these days.
So the sky is blue and we are happy.. I'm a'sittin on the top of the door.. instead of the dock of the bay.. the Green Army has been watered, she will check on the herbs and salad leaves which are growing on the front wall of the house.
She also has to get into working clothes. I'll flap-a-flap into the bedroom, listen to the radio and doze and then she'll be home again. The weeks and life just roll on by.. for she'll be eating Malaysian dumplings and chewing the fat with Debbie Goaty Mum this Sunday at Marylebone Market.
Enjoy your days.. wherever you may be.. for Old Father Time does not stop.. tick tock tick tock.
