Whilst fiddling about this afternoon she remembered the name of an Turkish friend and after much scrabbling through old address books, she found his details and sent him an email. It didn't bounce back so she knew it was still valid and now he has responded.
Yes, he knew exactly what she was talking about and yes, he would ask his mama for her recipe. So that is one version, the other comes from a very old, grand hotel in Istanbul which someone has been kind enough to obtain for her.
She doesn't shop on Holy Days, Easter Day or Christmas Day and as she doesn't have one of the vital, to both recipes, ingredients to make this sqidgy red heavenly sweet.. you'll have to wait until she has all the ingredients together.
But as you are probably full up to the brim of Easter food.. and other such delicacies.. aka chocolate.. this should not be a great hardship to you..
We have had a very pleasant day.. not a lot has been done, just the usually Easter'y things.
She did not go to the allotment, she came home, took off her finery and we had an early, simple but delicious light lunch. We have spoken to a couple of friends, answered an email or two, read several papers on line, she has eaten the remains of a tub of Rose flavoured Turkish Delight from Hadji Bey in Co.Clare that Debbie gave her for Christmas, a little too much of that, I fear.
She'll call Big Cousin Bruce and maybe Tom in NYC later today and we will spend the rest of the day very quietly, she'll read and I'll perch, either on her head or on the top of a door, and doze. Life doesn't have to full of action-packed-drama or 'fun' every day to be enjoyable and of good quality.
The weather forecast for tomorrow is for sunshine and no rain but it is a Bank Holiday here in the UK, she would have most likely gone to the allotments but Bank Holiday bus services are an absolute nightmare and so it will be another quiet day with no recipes posted for the Turkish Delight.
But there is always stuff to do at home which one can do, isn't there? She might get around to doing that mending she's been putting off or the pile of ironing. Then I could play the 'Whoosh Game', it can only be played when the ironing board is up, the steam iron plugged in and a Salsa disc is playing, we often wonder how Gloria is, we do hope that she's both happy and healthy.
As we hope you are too..
