SHE HAS ENTRUSTED BIG WICKER-WHEELIE TO DAVID.. VIA DEBBIE.

Whom she does not know.. gulp.. but he is a Goatie dad, so he must be ok.

Yesterday she had to deliver some Salami goodies to Myra but both Wicker-Wheelies were left behind.

Oh.. you not realise that there are two?

The bigger one has a much taller basket which is in perfect condition, however, his metal base is broken, which she has makey-do mended several times and his 'standing' leg broke off a long time ago.

The shorter WW, who is much older, has a basket which is badly damaged at the top. One day, she keeps saying she will do this but it is yet to happen, she will cut willow sticks at the allotment and reweave and repair the top section

One night in December, she and tall WW were coming home from the market, he was full to the brim with vegetables and bottles and as she lifted him off the bus, his metal handle broke at the base and started to slide up through the basket work.

Oh dear.. poor Wicker-Wheelie, for with a loose, damaged handle, which she was unable to mend, and his already patched broken bottom, what was his future? Pretty dire, to say the least.

She mentioned this to Debbie Goat on a day before Christmas when they exchanged gifts and greetings.

Wise Debbie Goat listened to this sorry tale but said nothing, however, she recounted it to her partner in Goaties.. David.. aka The Master of Machinery and Engines.

Then Debbie sent her a text telling her to bring poor, sick WW to the next Farmer's Market after the New Year.

Which is why she went to Balham with big WW yesterday, there was no bouncing about though and he carried nothing in his basket, she held him most carefully as she went up and down stairs and on and off the buses and trains that she had to take.

And then she had to leave him there with Debbie. It seemed very strange to walk up the steps to the street and away from her Wicker friend.

People, undoubtely strangers and unsentimental at that, will say, "it is only a basket on wheels, get over it and besides, you have the other one".

Yes, sentimental undoubtedly. For her tall basket has enabled her to transport many, a carefully wrapped, very valuable vase or lamp and many clients have smiled at her form of transport, her feet, but they knew that she never broke a client's lamp or vase in all the years she worked for them.

It is much safer to roll it along than to carry a large piece of porcelain with a heavy wooden base.

So off to Kent he has gone.

We today awoke to a very sunny day but.. oh.. so chilly-billy and she fed me a new bread which caused a major 'ump-the-dump in the YumYum HQ this morning.

Apparently, Messrs Lidl are having problems with the supply of my favourite dark rye with sunflower bread and there is none to be had! Gulp.

This is awful news! Much searching is being done on line to see if she can find a recipe for such a tasty thing, we know it has molasses in it, this narrows the search considerably, but all that seem suitable are 'talking' about making the Rye SourDough starter, and, as all you bakers will know, that ain't a quick thing!

So now in 'stock' is a bag of Spelt and another of Dark Rye flour, she will attempt to make a heavily seeded Soda bread for tomorrow and start the Starter for a Rye SourDough.

FlapFlap.. watch this space.. we might have a new recipe to give you, in the meantime we ate Fish-the-dish for our late lunch-early supper.. FlapFlap.

Then we got a call from LazyBoyBruce, his brother, David, also our cousin, died last week and  Bruce and the family went to the mainland to join their sisters and attend David's funeral.

Life, dear Readers, life. "Enjoy it" as Bruce said to her "for it is mighty short". True, dearest cousin, very true.

GeeGee Parrot.
