EATING WINTER'S JEWELS!

How do you fancy munching a Ruby? Well, to be honest I am not talking about a Ruby in the form of a stone but a Ruby in the form of a Pomegranate seed.. but no fairer Ruby could you possibly eat.

Dear Readers, here is the list of ingredients and how-to-make it, aka recipe, of the dish we ate last night.

You will need..

A Red Onion, not too large, thinly sliced, she used the Mandolin.
2 Celery stalks, thinly chopped, again she used the Mandolin.
A minute amount of Caster Sugar.
Pinch of Salt.
2 Tablespoons of Lemon juice.
50 gms of fresh Hazelnuts chopped.
A thick slice of good bread, she used the Lithuanian Rye bread broken into pieces.
200 gms of Purple Sprouting Brocolli sliced lengthways.
100 gms of White Cauliflower flowers.
100 gms of Ordinary Brocolli flowers.
1 Tablespoon of Olive Oil.
Fresh Parsley, a LARGE bunch! Roughly chopped. Stems and leaves.
200 gms of Pomegranate Seeds.
150 gms of crumbly Cheese, she used Ellie's Dairy Goat Curd.
Black Pepper.

Put the onion and celery into a bowl, add sugar and salt and lemon and mix well.
In a non stick pan, put a tablespoonful of oil and cook Hazelnuts and bread until browned, set aside to cool.
Boil pan of lightly salted water, add the Sprouting Brocolli for about 2 minutes, then add the Cauliflower and the Brocolli flowers and cook for a further 1 minute.
Drain these well and cool under running cold water.
When drained, add these to the onion and celery and toss well.
Scatter the Parsley, Pomegranates, cheese, hazelnuts and bread over the vegetables.
Pour over the remaining oil and grind Black Pepper over the top.

Crunchy nuts!  Precious Winter Jewels.. Just what we need on dismal days BUT, if you are living in the Northern Hemisphere, have you noticed.. It is no longer pitch dark at 4.00pm!

Yes, the Winter Solstice has been and gone and our days are getting longer.. yippee!

Now I am off to go and sit on pole and look at the passers-by. I heard one woman say yesterday "what a strange noise that telephone makes", strange noise!

Huh. The cheek of it, I thought I was whistling a pretty fine tune. I bet her cat or dog can't whistle like I can and do.

GeeGee Parrot.
