Back in time her eldest brother worked for a company in Boston and had a slightly younger friend and colleague called Ray Tomlnson. A bright clever man, this company didn't employ anyone who wasn't, he came up with the idea of specific person to person electronic mail.
In the latter part of the 80's she worked on a contract for six months @ AT&T. The job specification was to find premises large enough in London for massive main frame computers to be built that would handle this electronic mail.
Every month two or three very bright boffins from Trenton, NJ would appear and physically build these monsters making them able to be increased in size and capability, it was a vast, extraordinary project for an amazing system, that from anywhere in the world you could and would be able to send and receive e-mail.
All dreamt up by Ray Tomlinson, whose death was announced late last night by Raytheon.
GeeGee Parrot.
