She meets people on buses, she's strange this way. Several weeks ago she and another woman started talking when the woman asked her where the North End Road Market was, she told her that she was going there, it was a Monday, and she would show her.
It transpired that Jasmins' father is the supplier of salted duck eggs to the market egg stall. He had had the most awful accident and Jasmin was doing it whilst her father was in hospital. Oh, the egg stall was not there! They're never here on a Monday another stall holder told them, they'll be here tomorrow.
So they parted, my mama to weigh-in and Jasmin to go wherever.. probably to take the eggs back to her flat and then off to see her poor father. She runs the only cafe on the Pier at Broairstairs, which, if you don't know it, is an old charming seaside town in East Kent.
Fast forward a few weeks and there arrived today a call from Jasmin, yippee, her father is much much better, back salting his own eggs and when are you free for lunch next week? How nice. For when the weather is as grim as it was today, you certainly ain't going to garden, well, not if you have any sense, you don't! So the odd lunch or jaunt is a fun thing to do.
Did you know that most cinemas chains in the UK allow people over 55 in for £3.00 and give you coffee or tea as well? She's off to watch a film next week with Pauline from the slimming group. For £3.00, why that's almost the price of a coffee in the West End at some of these jumped-up & never-come-down cafe places these days.
Today.. Ooh.. It was so bitterly cold, it was minus one here last night and didn't seem that intent on getting much above that all day, it crawled up to about three degrees and then chucked it down for a few hours, all the fruit she bought was well washed! But, at least, we didn't get sleet or snow.
She got a call from Emma.. oh yippee, her skin products are on their way, she should have them on Friday and she has an appointment with Valerie in the latter half of April. Flowers and a birthday card for Tereza who lives upstairs, two other nice calls received from friends and a card from USA giving her pleasant news about a friends' son.
All in all, it was a quiet but happy day, let there be more like it please. Ah, no response from the silly landlord yet.. watch this space!
