ON KEEPING GERMY GERMS AT BAY. Part 2.

Who wants a germ? No, we are not offering you any, not even for free!

I am back with more germ busting home-brews for you. NO antibiotics were hurt in these processes, well, their noses were put out of joint but a good tweak or a kick in their pants should sort them out.

The first part of this post is about a strange mixture of two spices and honey. They are both powdered and are extraordinarily important in the fight against viruses and those dirty germs that one's family, fellow workers and total strangers are so unnecessarily generous with.

Take that mug, put in a dessert spoonful of good honey and a heaped teaspoonful of both Cinnamon and Turmeric. Stir them all together and pour on boiled water. Place the saucer on top and allow to brew for 3 minutes. Drink. Repeat twice a day for 2 weeks.

I KNOW.. it does taste pretty weird, you should've seen her face the first time she drank it!

Cinnamon is known to have principles which have : Anti-oxidant, anti-septic, anti-inflamatory, is rubefacient (this means it is soothing & warming), carminative (NO farting! This ingredient helps prevent the formation of gas in the Gastrintestinal tract).

Turmeric has the active ingredient Curcumin which is Anti-inflammatory and an Antioxidant.

They both have lots of other importandt roles in keeping us healthy, too many to list here but VERY serious medical research is being done with both of these (and other) spices.

And now.. Drum Roll please.. We come to her most favourite things.. Essential Oils.

Now it does help that she grew up with Hugo making Constance's face cream, he worked for Yardleys for several years, that is why they went to live in Dublin. So essential oils played a huge part in her life and then, of course, she came across them in the Cosmetic & Perfume industry.

But I am not talking about Facial Oils today.. I am talking about oils that will help keep you free from infections. She calls these 'THE BIG FIVE'. They are: Cinnamon Bark, Clove Bud, Eucalyptus Radiata, Lemon and Rosemary.

Recipe for a germ killing handy little spray. Take a small (50mls is a good size) bottle with a pump action spray which has a plastic top, boil a kettle and pour in hot water to sterilise the bottle, put in the pump spray and give it a couple of squirts to make sure both tube and spray are clean.

Take the spray out and tip the bottle upside down on a tissue to drain. When the bottle has drained, put in 10 drops of each of the oils. Allow them to mix with each other for twenty minutes, by which time the water in the kettle should be cool. Top up the bottle with water and put the pump spray in, tighten and place the top on.

All these five essential oils are powerful germ killers in their own right. Each day she sprays a little squirt on a fresh cotton handkerchief before she leaves the house, the spray travels with her and is used on washbasin taps, lavatory handles and she always squirts a tiny squirt into the air after she has been to the lavatory.. any lavatory, friends' homes or a public one.

Last week she used it in a friend's bathroom, only to have friend call her later and ask her "what was that lovely smell you squirted in there?" It is also used now in the charity shop where she works, it keeps the air smelling very pleasant and she frequently, during the days she works there, wipes the credit card reader and door handles with a micro fibre cloth and a BIG spray of this magic potion!

DO NOT SPRAY THIS OR ANY ESSENTIAL OILS DIRECTLY ONTO THE SKIN.

Essential Oils. Spices. Herbs.. Fruits.. Look after your body by being aware of what you put in AND onto it. She will be posting about two VERY nasty ingredients that you almost certainly use on your body every day. Aluminium and Sodium Lauryl / Laureth Sulfate.

Got to go.. whoosh off to pole.

GeeGee Parrot.
