Alas and alack, the end is in sight, there will soon, I fear, be no more lolling about on her head. For her cough has almost gone and she hasn't sneezed for at least twenty four hours. Sigh.. it has been extremely pleasant having her at home under my beady eye and feet for this period of time.
She gathered some of the ingredients that you will need for this salad last week end, the others are things that most of you will already have in stock as staples.
Here is the list of what you will need to make this attractive salad.
2 celery stalks sliced.
1 red onion sliced.
330g of FLOWER Sprouts.. from Ted's Organic Veg at Parson's Green Farmer's Market
or good suppliers of vegetables. They are an English vegetable bred by TOZERS, a cross between a Brussell Sprout & Russian Kale.. FABULOUS!
One thick slice of good Rye bread chopped into little chunks.
50g of raw Hazelnuts, chopped.
200g of Purple Sprouting Broccoli, sliced.
100g of Goats Cheese crumbled.. we, of course, use Ellie's Goats Curd.
100g of Pomegranate seeds.
1 tablespoonful of Olive Oil.
1 tablespoonful of Lemon juicePinch of Sea salt.
1 teaspoonful of Caster sugar.
Black pepper to grind.
Put the celery and onion into a salad dish, add sugar, salt and lemon juice, mix well.
Toast the hazelnuts and rye bread until brown in a non stick pan. Set aside to cool.
Put broccoli into boiling water for two minutes, then add the flower sprout for just one minute, drain well and add to the salad bowl, add the olive oil and toss well.
Add the hazelnuts, rye bread, goats cheese and pomegranate seeds.
Grind black pepper over the bowl and toss well.
It is extremely tasty and very pretty! We've just had it for lunch.. sometimes I have to turn a blind eye to when she raids my nut supply and today, with that combination of : Curd, nuts, pomegranate seeds and toasty rye bread, it was well worth it, I think.
Another bright and sunny start to the day.. the bulbs will be strutting their stuff at the allotment. I wonder what it looks like.. certainly horribly overgrown. Let's hope this fine weather continues, there is SO much work to do out there. But the weather man says this isn't going to last.. that maybe we will get cold weather again. Now, that would be a pity, wouldn't it?
Time for a doze.. we will be back later as she has been given the most glorious couple of books and we will post on both of them. Yawn..
GeeGee Parrot.
