She had to meet three friends for an early supper last night and, unfortunately, the venue was Nando's.. not her choice, but it was chosen because it was directly opposite a major transport hub of trains and buses, convenient for them all.
She was on time and so too were two of the others, they sat and chatted and chatted and chatted, not one member of staff approached their table. Eventually she said, "what gives, are we invisible, I want a drink and food" and got up and went to the till where a large man was standing.
He said "what do you want?" which is NOT the right way to greet a customer, she replied "what I want is for someone to come and take an order for drinks and food on that table by the window where we have been sitting for over ten minutes". He sort-of-shrugged and said "oh, we don't do table service like that (despite there being lots of staff running about in black shirts), you have to come here to the till and give us your order".
What a cock-a-mammy way of doing things, she thought and went back to the table, if that's their policy, someone should have told them when they entered the restaurant and sat down at the table and not left them just sitting there.
One of the others lent over to a table of two women and told them that no-one would be coming to take their order, they looked at each other and one of the women said "How strange, Thai foods suddenly seems more attractive" and they left! (She wished she could have gone with them).
She got their order together, went to the man, someone brought the drinks and starters which they were sharing. "Please would you bring us four glasses of water" asked another of the group. "You get that from the water fountain at the back" said the waitress and left.
IS THIS PLACE FOR REAL? They looked at each other and roared with laughter!
'Interestingly' enough, when she went to the water fountain which she found located right at the back of the restaurnt, there were no glasses, she had to go to the till and ask for them. Who dreamt up this policy? For it is mighty weird!
The food was indifferent, which was better than the service which was appalling, one chain of restaurants that she'll never be going back into, that's for sure!
Bright and very sunny here, no 'white stuff' lying on the pavements, but the council have been out and about very early scattering grit and salt on street corners and crossings.
But if you are in snow and icy conditions, be sure to be alert, walk and drive carefully and FEED your birds!
