For more years than she can remember, at the Vauxhall bus station, there stood all by itself a beautiful old house. Of classical design and of four, including the basement, stories high, this was a building that has cried out for someone to buy it, love it and to restore it. For many years it had been an architectural salvage ground owned by LASSCO.
And the last time she went to Baldwins the Herbalists (Walworth Road, Elephant & Castle) by bus, she usually goes by underground, she realised her dreams and hopes had been fulfilled! She didn't have the time to investigate but the building has straightened its' shoulders and is standing tall again.
She was reading the Guardian on-line last night and scrolled down to read Jay Rayner's restaurant review of a place called Brunswick House and there, Dear Readers, was the house! The building has been restored by the good folk of LASSCO and turned into a restaurant and venue organisation.
No, she doesn't know when the transformation took place or when the restaurant was started but she'll find out when she takes herself down there next month.
It is still a salvage place, you can buy things from the house but of my goodness me, what a great job they've done! The house has a varied history, please enter LASSCO BRUNSWICK HOUSE into your search engine and see for yourselves the beauty of this house.
And to make her even happier and determind to go and actually get into this glorious place, the chef, Jackson Boxer, son of Charlie Boxer.. another 'foodie'.. is the grandson of one of her most favourite food writers, Lady Arabella Boxer. So she's a happy camper and we think that Lady Arabella must be an extremely proud grandmother.
Now we're off to start our day and to see how much water Imogen is throwing at us.. grrr.
GeeGee Parrot.
