Now, who can resist a chip? A proper potato chip. Not one of those silly skinny little things but a big fat proper chip. Well, you'll be amazed to hear that she hasn't eaten any potatoes, let alone a fat chip, for many a year.
Why not, well, because they're one of the Nightshade family, like tomatoes, peppers and aubergines, and have, in the past, caused all manner of unpleasant pain (arthritis) in her right hand.
She used to grow and eat both potatoes and tomatoes veryvery happily until one day, she ate a homemade tomato sauce and suddenly, the knuckles in her right hand swelled to a scarily fearsome size and she felt 'veryvery ill' (to put it mildly) plus she couldn't bend any of her fingers.. grim.
"Highly allergic" was the prognosis.. "don't eat any of them, them being the nightshade family, and see if your knuckles go back to their proper shape, drink lots of water to flush the poison out of your urinary system and pray?" said her GP.
So no potatoes have been eaten for ages. But she ate a few this last week and waited to see if her hand became sore.. nope! So she said "yes please" when offered chips. She, again, felt no pain and her knuckles didn't and haven't become swollen but you can only push your luck so far and so likee she no longer buys dark rye Polish bread, 'cos she'd eat it all in a day, she isn't going to buy any potatoes, not even those baby teeny-weeny ones.. to eat with butter and mint or oil and chilli flakes.
I love those small thin skinned, teeny-weeny, potatoes.. we've both just sighed. But she has to admit to being a bit of a porker when it comes to some foods, so it is better if they don't even cross our threshold and arrive into YumYum HQ.
For what's the point in doing all the hard work and losing these two stones and a bit, just to blow it all by pigging out on tatties, so, in fact, it's going to be.. 'Mirror, mirror on the wall, don't let her gain any weight at all!'
