FLOODS IN UK BUT VERY LITTLE WATER AT LAKE OF THE WOODS, CALIFORNIA.

Good morning Dear Readers.. Yes, I know there was no post yesterday but SHE left the house at a gallop.

One minute WE were sitting there breaking that norty fast, then the telephone rang and the next minute SHE was climbing into rubber boots, blowing ME a kiss whilst SHE put almonds and cashew nuts into nut bowl, then whoosh, SHE was gone! Not to come back until seven of the evening clock!

BumpBumpBump, old wicker came down the steps, I flew to bedroom door, front door opened and in SHE came.. looking very tired but happy!

"Always good to be able to do a friend a favour" was all SHE said, as SHE disappeared into the bathroom to shed dirty clothes!

There followed a light supper and an early night, hence no post yesterday for MY Blog.

So today the morning is happening slowly. The weather forecast is excellent, with fine weather and a rise in temperature. Lots to do at the garden but the first thing that has to happen is that food shopping has to be done, something that usually happens on Friday, SHE avoids crowds that way.

However, WE always read emails after breakfast and a friend has sent us an article about California.

It is about a small town high up in the mountains that sit on top of the San Andreas Fault, eighty miles north east of Los Angeles.

The small town is called Lake of the Woods but the lake went dry forty years ago and the article, written by Adam Nagourney for The New York Times on March 7th, is about the situation of acute water shortage which is being experienced throughout California.

It makes for very disturbing reading. The article is to be found on-line @ The New York Times website US section. Why should it 'disturbing' to read? Well.. Figure it out.

No water means no crops.. no food for animals.. no food for bees who pollinate crops.. no food for humans. California grows crops of vastly different types from Almonds to Wine (grapes). No crops growing means no work for the growers, the pickers, packers, truckers.. do YOU see where this is going.

In the meantime, in the middle of America and on the eastern Seaboard, there are still massive amounts of snow on the ground, snow that did not fall, as it usually does, on the mountain ranges in California.

But, here in the UK, the damage done by too much water is almost beyond comprehension, except for those farmers who look with despair at their still water-sodden land and know there is no hope of growing any crops this spring, which are sold as animal and human food later on in the year.

This is not a 'Political Blog', for SHE keeps HER own council and views of politics and politicians but it does seem to ME that the political situation in Russia and the Ukraine has allowed or taken the politician's and the newspaper's eye off OUR home 'grown' disaster.

This should not be allowed to happen.

GeeGee Parrot.
March 8th, 2014.
Post Script.. Ooooh dear!
Writing that date has made HER realise that yesterday was Peter Pigeon's anniversary!
