GOD SPEED & KEEP YOU SAFE LITTLE DOVE..

Those of YOU Dear Readers who are up to date on MY Blog will have read the Tale of February's Gifts.

The Feral Dove, whom SHE calls Little Dove, came to HER so that SHE could remove the awful mass of cotton and chewing gum which was causing his left foot to be crippled.

He had already lost the inner toe, one of three, his back toe was in a very bad way as it was stuck under his foot in the gum. But it was the middle toe, the longest, that was the main problem.

For it was dangling loose and going blue, this denoted a loss of circulation and SHE knew it was going to have to be amputated.

Poor, poor Little Dove.

SHE bathed him, dusted him off with Avian Mite powder and put him to rest in a travelling cage. SHE has made sure he has eaten lots of wild bird yumyum plus MY seeds as well as corn.

Each day SHE has talked to him and taken him out of the cage to look at his poor foot. Luckily the blue did not travel up into his foot but remained localised in his toe.

Then it turned black and SHE knew that nature, clever old Mother Nature, was working her magic.

Whilst cleaning his cage late this afternoon, SHE noticed that his 'hop' up from the cage floor onto the little wooden pole was a lot more graceful than of late and saying "excuse me", reached in and took him in HER hands.

Ignoring his protestations of being treated in such an undignified fashion, SHE turned him over and saw that Mother Nature had, indeed, done her work perfectly, for the poor blackened toe was nowhere to be soon.

What is left is a very neat little stump which is completely healed and shiny pink! SHE put him back in the cage and found the little dead toe lying underneath the spot where he sleeps at night.

It is dark now and a very chilly, damp night, SHE has decided that tomorrow morning, after his breakfast and as long as it is not pouring with rain, SHE will open the front door, give him a kiss on his head and let him fly away.

In Spanish SHE would say "Vayo con Dios" but he is a London Pigeon, so in English SHE will say "God speed and keep YOU safe Little Dove, thank YOU for trusting ME. Good luck and bye-bye".
