FOR KAREN IN MINNESOTA & SALLY IN FRANCE..

WE.. aka SHE & ME.. are so happy!

SHE has just read an email out to ME.. from a friend who is also a Dear Reader. Karen (who like another friend Dear Reader MaryLou in Illinois) is a bird fancier.. yes, that is what they are called here in England.

SHE said that MY story about OUR Dove was very nice and that recipes here are different to the ones in America.

WE like it very much when folk / followers & friends respond to a post and SHE has been known to do the Fandango. YOU will only know what this is if YOU have read early posts.. it is not the dance, oh no.. it is surely not that!

Little Feral Dove is asleep. In his real life he, of course, does not use electric light to prolong his days, he is usually probably very tired at night, it is a hard life walking the streets of London every day looking for yumyum and water.

He has lots of both in his cage and a perch and SHE was mighty pleased to see that this afternoon, he was actually standing on the perch with both of his feet, the middle toe is very, very wonky and may have to be amputated but he is beginning to stretch out his back toe. (They have three in the front and one at the back). He is eating and drinks quite a bit.. this is all good.

At dusk, we close the door on his room so that the electric light does not cause his little clock to go out of sync.

And have retreated to OUR comfiest and cosiest place.. OUR bedroom.. tv, books, music, grapes, almonds, light.. YOU get the drift!

And WE have to thank another friend, an old school friend of HERS, they were at Tring Park, Arts Educational Trust together a very long time ago.

Towards the later part of last year, SHE was reading about the Grecian Turkish situation and Sally, in France, (who is renovating a house and its' garden, lots of work, not for the faint hearted) recommended a book called ELENI by Nicholas Gage. Published by Vintage in 2006. HER local library bought it for HER as they did not have a copy.

The core of the book is the murder of his mother at the time of the Greek Civil War in 1948. The book gives an in depth historical background starting at a point of WW2 in the 1940's and through into the period of the latter 1940's with Communist Guerrilla warfare which claimed over 150,000 lives.

Not easy reading but war and the atrocities that are committed by people to other people in such times are never happy tales.

So I play grapes and almonds whilst SHE reads grim history and better understands the bitter resentments held by people against countries who raped, pillaged and stole everything of value.. leaving whole villages starving or massacred.

If YOU don't read History, YOU won't have the faintest idea of what and why things happened that have shaped this world.

Ignorance is not bliss.

GeeGee Parrot.

  1. Your little dove is a lucky bird indeed. SHE most definitely has a way with birds. Bubble gum, indeed! If people knew what havoc it can wreak perhaps they wouldn't be so careless--at least I'd like to think that. Well done, Sara!
