They're over twenty years old and as good as the day she bought them in a shop on Second Avenue in New York. They fit beautifully.
Santana Boots, Canada were the makers and she would dearly love to get another pair but Santana have stopped making boots like this and now only do high 'Fashion' boots and shoes, sad as the workmanship is brilliant.
Never mind, she put on a pair of cotton socks, eased her poor foot into the boot and stood up.. NO PAIN! Yeah!! So she went to the allotments, got some petrol from Joska and cut the grass, dug over four beds, the soil is perfect, moved some black plastic to amongst the currant bushes where she is going to put down thick layers of newspaper to kill the weeds and then top it off with compost and a bit of top soil.
Picked a huge amount of glorious and very highly scented narcissi, looked at all the peonies.. yippee.. little dark red buds showing through the soil. The yellow plum that she 'literally butchered' two years ago is in full blossom!
One Seneca plum has two major branches that are dead, she needs to get a saw down there and take them off and to take down the little plum tree that died, most mysteriously, last June.
Lots to do! If the weather holds up like this, warm but not too hot, she'll pop me into my big travel cage and we'll go gardening this week! Fresh air and sunlight.. very good for parrots and women!
She must remember to take her can with her the next time she goes to fill up with petrol for the grass trimmer together with a litre sized glass bottle so she can replace Joska's petrol.
All in all it was a pleasant day, she didn't leave until 12.30 so I wasn't abandoned for too long but she was mighty sad to hear that her old friend of fifteen years, Irish Joe (there were four Joes on the site) has given up his plot, he has been gardening that plot of land for forty years and his vegetables were wonderful. He was a sweet man.. oi vey.. old age.
She has to get white paint for the trunks of her fruit trees.. creeply crawlies don't like it and she got a serious amount of fruit coming in this year if the blossom is anything to go by.. plus a lot of work to do on the terrace. She has to build herself a new eating table and several raised beds.
And has to cut a hedge of Clematis Montana Mayleen down to the ground. It has taken a fence down with it, the winds have been appalling down there according to Andrew, the site rep, hideous gusts of high winds and several greenhouses have been badly damaged.
Lots of work, we better start doing it but oh thank goodness for those Canadian boots, they support her ankles and feet so the wretched spur doesn't hurt too much. Good huh, so gardening can start, she ran the trimmer over the asparagus bed. Now it will be much easier to weed.
Off to bed in a few minutes.. I have eaten half an egg, some salmon, a beakful of hummus, lots of walnuts, some apple and she's given me my vitamins and that sedative, she sneaked it in before she gave me my Cod Liver oil.. but I'm pretty sure that I'll be seeing the vet again tomorrow.. ah well, we wish you all happy week.
