We did not leap out of bed this morning, it was, when she first awoke, not a brilliant day. So she made a mug of LapySang tea, opened my cage and we went back to bed for tea and a cuddle. This, Dear Readers, is the best way to start a day.
Then the sun came around the corner and lo and behold, it turned into quite a pleasant day. I doubt very much whether the temperature rose to the 20 degrees which is what they said it would rise to but at least rain was not being thrown from above on to the pavements and the sky was blue.
It makes such a difference, does it not?
She went off to strange lands, she told Baldwins about the result of using the two oils on that weird place on her back, they were very pleased indeed to hear the good news and then she went on up the Walworth Road to Essex Street Market.
"Where?" I can hear you say, she had never heard of it either but a couple recommended a flower and plant stall at the end of the market so off she walked and walked.
And, sure enough, there it was. A bustling London street market, with no cars only pedestrians, so you can amble about, back and forth from stall to stall.
Screeching halt, oh, heavenly stuff! In front of her was an old fashioned seafood stall. Native Crabs, jellied Eels (how she loves them), big Prawns, little brown Morecambe Bay Shrimps, Cockles, Clams, Winkles, Whelks, you name it, he had it!
A Crab and a Pint of Whelks were purchased, the Crab was for supper, the Whelks she ate as she pottered along. The family lived in Sandwich for many years and if Hugo decided to give his wife and daughter a treat, it was usually a trip up the coast to Whitstable to the Oyster company, they still exist. Lovely grub!
She loves seafood, any type, delicious!
Further along was the plant stall and it had such a great selection of beautiful plants at good prices, plus all manner of plants that you never expect to see on a market stall like Osteospermum, aka African Cape Daisies.
They had a lot of vegetable plants too but it is still far too early for us to plant tender stuff, we have to wait at least another three weeks and even then, we have to cover them with a layer of fleece.
Old Jack Frost is such a villain, he has been known to give our plants a nip as late as June 9th!
So it was with old Wheelie Wicker full to the brim with plants, plus the produce from a quick raid from the huge Morrison's supermarket, three SpinyApples for a pound and five different pots of herbs which will be planted into hanging wall pots, that she caught the bus home.
She gave Mr.Crab a big hit with a saucepan to crack his shell, only to realise that there was no bread for my supper and not an egg in sight for mayonnaise!
You can't eat old Crab without mayo, so she had to go out again to Battersea to get my Rye bread and eggs.
What a day of jaunting about she had had! Good thing old Crab was cooked as she would not have had the energy to fiddle about about doing that!
He was delicious, as was that egg custard that she bought herself as pudding, pudding? We very, very seldom eat pudding in this house, so it was indeed a treat! And so is getting into bed and having a quiet evening at home.
She will plant her friend's big tub with the Geraniums tomorrow and they will order the Camellia from Trehane's Nursery this coming week.
She will use white Alyssum underplanting, it has such a wonderful fragrance.
We hope that your week end has started well? It is a three day week end here because of the May Day holiday on Monday, she is working on Wednesday.
Sleepy time for both of us. Good night to you all.
