Hello Dear Reader.. I trust all is well in your world? What a day, WE have had wild weather here today.. hail and rain storms, then brilliant sun but oh, very ChillyBilly... bbrrrr.
WE heard Debi-in-Sheffield has not received package that SHE sent Saturday 1st Class to arrive before 1pm yesterday.. huh, postman probably walking to Yorkshire.. what IS matter with Post these days? SHE is still waiting for letter sent from America on April 4th! It is now April 17th for goodness sake.. disgraceful..
What a busy day and 7pm is HER time to catch ole friend number 19 bus to eat Chinese yumyum and see 'Citizen Kane' with Orson Welles.. best deal in town.. comfy cinema seats.. £4.00!
Morning trip to market with ole Wicker Trolley means WE have delicious things in yumyum HQ. SHE came back and sorted desk drawers, was ruthless with papers, checked if important, mostly not, mostly out of date.. Mr. Shredder shredded. SHE swears papers rub together and have babies.. Norty papers.
Hanging above desk is picture, go to 1st Post of 2012 on MY Blog to read Cartoon and Mysterious Man in which I wrote there were 2 Cartoons, this Tale relates to laminated newspaper cutting tucked into picture frame.
Back in 1997 SHE had friend called Pilot, those of YOU, Dear Reader, who have read all of MY Blog will remember that he has featured in a couple of posts. On HER birthday, 7th July, Pilot and SHE dined in Greek restaurant run by old friend of HERS up on Moscow Road.
Whole evening exceedingly jolly, Pilot and SHE were leaving next day on looong trip, so before it got tooo late, he made signal at waiter and asked for bill so they could pay and leave..
NO bill came.. more signalling.. still no bill.. SHE smiled, turned to man who had jurst sat down besides HER on banquette and asked to see his menu. Then asked Pilot for his mobile.
Remember this was 1997, mobiles were not small like now but Pilot had latest, all singing, all dancing Nokia...
Pilot gave HER Nokia, SHE flipped it open, quickly typed something on keypad, pressed series of numbers.. restaurant telephone rang, then noise changed.. to another signal.. SHE pressed button.. shut Nokia, gave it back to Pilot..
The man sitting beside HER got 'it' immediately and started to laugh and said to HER.. "I draw a Cartoon in the City pages of The Daily Telegraph, may I have your permission to draw this?". SHE laughed and said "of course you may".. Pilot, nice man, but a bit slow sometimes, asked what was going on, Cartoonist said "I think you will find your bill coming any minute.. your friend just faxed restaurant".
And sure enough, standing behind the bar, laughing with tears streaming down his face, was HER old friend Georgiou reading HER fax.
HER Cartoon appeared in The Saturday Telegraph, Financial Section. July 19th, 1997.
Pilot sent it to HER, dedicated with 'For being the original from which Cartoons are drawn'.
GeeGee Parrot.
April 17th, 2012.
