She had to go out to get something from Robert Dyas, so dressed in multiple layers of clothing, found the studded soles that you strap to boots, put them on and went out of the house.
Our steps were covered in untrodden snow, she made a mental note to brush and salt them upon her return.
Our pavement was lethal, for the snow had melted, then frozen, but with these magic studs that 'bite' into the snow and ice she knew she was safe and off she went to catch a bus.
And returned home via our Lebanese friends where she had stopped in for a cup of hot ginger.
Somebody had left a bundle of broken down cardboard boxes by the side of the road, just what she wanted to help her push the fresh snow off our steps!
She left WW at the top and came down using the cardboard to sweep the snow aside. Then walked up to get WW and bring it down.
As she turned and started down the steps, a small little person flew down beside her and landed on the handrail! He was fluffed up and had a very bright red chest!
A Robin! And he was a robin on a mission. To find yumyum and water and he knew she would provide both of them for him.
She unlocked the door as quickly as she could, went and found a little bag of sunflower kernels in chilly white larder and a bowl into which she put water.
She went back outside and found him waiting for her on the floor, she put the kernels and water on the bathroom window ledge and he hopped up.
The first thing he did was to drink, then he ate kernels, then he stopped and looked up at her. She poured more of the kernels onto the ledge and he ate a few more.
He stopped again and stood looking up at her, she said "I'll leave it here, tell the others, I won't put it on the floor because mice will eat it. It's safer up here and I'll make sure the water isn't iced over for you".
He spoke.. she doesn't speak Robinspeak so she has no idea what he said but he flew up onto the handrail, turned around and looked at her again, said something else and flew up and off.
She came in and we had our late lunch. She caught a shot of him with her camera just before she fed him. A hungry, thirsty Robin who came to the right house.
Please make sure that you provide water and food for your garden birds.. up high so they will be safe from cats and the mice can't eat the food.
Chirp.. no, it's not what he said but it's how it made her feel.. full of chirp.
GeeGee Parrot.
