How curious.. how veryvery curious, for it was only on Tuesday whilst she was walking through St.Luke's Gardens that she had thought of Brian, an old work colleague. Brian with the crazy laugh and who was always 'up' despite the tragedies that had happened in his life.
He and his sister, whom he adored, were brought up in South Africa. But two tragedies happened which meant that neither could stay there with the ghastly memories. Two car accidents had caused the deaths of their parents but worse was that Brian had been driving his car when their mother was killed and his sister had been driving her car when their father was killed.
The two of them left South Africa and came back to England where they had been born. His sister married and had a much beloved son and nephew. Her husband died of cancer fifteen years ago and she died three years later. Leaving Brian and his nephew.. alone.
She can't remember how they met but they worked for many years on lots of projects together. Then Mr. B, as she called him, left the firm he worked for and joined a new Architectural & Design company whose style didn't need her work and they drifted along as friends for a while but as I wrote in the title, they haven't met for at least ten years.
So when she received a request from a social media site on Tuesday night, she was literally struck dumb! 'How weird, what a coincidence', she thought and pressed Confirm. She rarely goes onto this but entered his name and sent him a private message only to read that he is taking a sabbatical from social media for a year.
She dug out an old work book, found his mobile number and sent him a text signing it with his nickname for her.. minutes later.. Ding.. went her mobile to say a text had landed. From Brian.. "Dearest ......, I'm presently in Lisbon, returning next week, super delighted to reconnect and would be thrilled to see you in person, let's make a plan to meet up and I'm so looking forward to seeing you again darling girl, many hugs, Brian".
Who knows why he contacted her? She rather naughtily pondered the thought 'What does he want after all these years'. But he had always made her laugh that's for sure, so she'll wait and see if he does get in touch. Friends come and friends go.. some wander off never to be seen again.. some stay very close..
I'm really close to her, I'm snoozing on her head, she's waiting for a delivery and we have something delicious in the YumYum HQ, thick slices of loin of pork marinating with herbs and garlic which we will have on a mash of sweet potatoes and carrots.
Roll on lunch..
