SOME OF LONDON ZOOS BIGGEST SPIDERS WERE IN LITTLE SHED!

I am writing the following couple of posts as if the next day hasn't happened yet.. bear with me, you will see why.

Oh boy, was I lucky! I wasn't going anyway because she had to go to weigh-in and then to find various things for Little Shed but, oh boy, WAS I lucky, like reallyreally lucky!

For the Summer we had been enjoying in England came to an abrupt halt at about 3.45pm when she felt a few drops of water on her face and thought 'Huh..' and went back in to continue scrubbing and washing the other side of the shed and disturbing some of the hairiest, monstrously sized spiders she has ever, ever seen in her life, she wondered 'were some inmates of London Zoo missing?'

She never wears her hearing aids when she goes to the allotments, so didn't hear the rain start until it was, literally, hammering on the roof of little shed! And such rain, we've had a week of hot days and everything was looking a bit dry, so she watched in fascination as her asparagus grew four inches in height! Oh.. happy thoughts of this much loved stuff for supper tonight went through her mind.

And so on she went, washing and rinsing.. ending up with a immaculately shiny sink, sterilised work surfaces, floor swept and washed, then sprayed with the non-smelly Jeyes Fluid. Glasses washed, rinsed and polished. Dirty string cloths put into a bag to bring home and boil.

And an evil briar and jasmine cut back from the windows outside so you can actually see through the windows! An she found the glove the wrens nested in.. this is worthy of another tale all to itself!

She picked the asparagus, her first cutting of the season at 8.15pm. She cuts the spears just under the surface with an incredibly sharp small knife and didn't feel in the slightest bit sorry for the slugs that she killed, the rain had brought them out in their thousands. All thinking, no doubt, that she wouldn't still be on the plots as it was so late.

It was even later when she got home, completely soaked, it was past 9.30pm and she was exhausted. Far too tired to even think of getting down the steamer for the asparagus. She trimmed it properly and put it away in the fridge.

A very hot shower and a cup of bovril with a slice of toast saved the day and warmed her bones. She knows that she isn't eating enough, she's worked the plots for four days in a row and has only drunk water during the day, eating a light supper upon her return.

"Your body has gone into starvation mode" said a chum from weigh-in said, "You must remember to take some protein or cold pasta with you and eat some herbs when you're working out there and up your water consumption".

Why was Teresa telling her to eat more. Well, despite the fact she is shrinking a bit each week, she gained 2lbs last week and is back up to 10 stone.. aka 140 lbs.. and so she slunk out of group before Katy could give her the evil eye!

Sadly, the thing she loves but knows is not good for her just HAS to stop.. bread and her are like catnip to cats.. except that it doesn't muck about with cats' weight, which it certainly does with hers! ByeBye bread.. you really are 'toast' in our house.

GeeGee Parrot.
