PAN FRIED SCALLOPS..

She went off to change books at the library and came back with things I've never seen before.. "They're called scallops GeeGee and yes, they're fish but are called Shellfish because they live in a beautiful shell".

She steamed a bag of skinny little beans and tossed them in a little oil with a minute amount of crushed garlic and seasoning, then taking a medium sized frying pan, she lit the gas and allowed the pan to heat up before adding a little oil and salt and pepper.

She plopped the scallops around the pan, waited a minute, then turned them over, the bottoms were beautifully coloured, the smell was delicious, she slid the beans out of their pan onto a dinner plate, turned off the gas and removed the scallops from the frying pan, a squeeze of lemon went over them and we settled down to our supper.

Ooh.. so sweet, so soft, such a deliciously light thing to eat. Yes, they're expensive but you don't need to buy kilos of them, your fishmonger will sell you just a couple, we had six and it was a big treat.

Tomorrow she is out for supper but she will start Saturday's supper tomorrow morning, I know that sounds a bit weird but she is making us a chicken stew with root vegetables, including, of course, our favourite Hamburg Parsley. She starts the stew of by making a stock out of a bunch of assorted root vegetables.

They look just like a skinny parsnip but their taste is completely different and simply fabulous! The only place she has ever found them and that has them regularly throughout the late autumn, winter and into the spring is our much beloved Polish food shop, Bartek Express, which is on the Central Parade, Streatham High Street, very near to St.Leonard's Church.

Other treats came home from Bartek as well, a pot of fresh Sauerkraut (slurp) and two big pots of IshPol Salad, one for her and one for Debbie Goaty mum, for this Sunday.. it's Dumpling Day at Marylebone Farmer's Market! Gosh, that last month has just zoomed by!

And tomorrow she has to make a couple of Chocolate Salami, one to take with her tomorrow night to give as a hostess gift and the other one is to give to our lovely Lebanese friend who is due back from Paris this week end.

Scallops.. Hamburg Parsley.. Buck Rarebit.. this week we've eaten foods for the Gods (and for us), Dear Readers, go and find yourself some really good food suppliers, buy fresh food and cook it properly / simply, OR, push the boat out a bit and make a beautiful sauce, actually, a puree would have gone very well with those scallops but we were too hungry to wait for any root vegetables to cook.

Now it's our bed time, she's got to go to put her eye drops in and refill her water bottle and I'm off to my bed and will post again tomorrow.. PipPip.

GeeGee Parrot.
