SHE'S WORKING AT A GIANT JIGSAW & I'M BACK IN JAIL!

It's officially the last day of Summer, for tomorrow is the First of September! Gulp and my oh my, how it flew by.

This is an update on where and what and why in our lives.

I am back in jail up in Kensington and she is working away like a demented beaver doing the jigsaw of putting our home back together again. NOT an easy task as she had to empty all the cupboards and bookshelves in the hall and our bedroom because of the building works that have been taking place.

Messrs Pickfords took away all of her clothes, books and furniture as the work entailed taking the plaster off the walls to the height of four foot. You can just imagine the dust! Hence everything being taken away into storage!

What was fragile she put into the sitting room and our most beloved Dean, her old driver, came and made that door fit properly and installed a lock and on the door into her walk-in cupboard as well. The telephone and router were disconnected and placed them just inside the sittingroom door, the doors were locked and she sealed them both with masking tape and polythene sheeting.

And we spent the month away.. sanctuary being given to us by Tereza, then we went off to the rented flat..

Restraint of Tongue and Pen does not allow me to divulge the name of the disgraceful Rental Agents who were in charge of this flat nor the name of the landlord. But she has photographic evidence of the appaling condition of the flat and I will divulge one horror.. it failed its' Gas Inspection!

Anyway.. moving swiftly along.. exactly twenty seven days after we moved out of our home, she took me into jail. Why? Well, although the interior work was supposed to have been finished, wasn't. They had NOT replaced the bottom of the cupboard with a new piece of wood, they had just repainted the old warped one and hoped she wouldn't notice!

FAT CHANCE!

She spotted it within a minute of entering the room the next day, they hadn't installed the window locks as instructed, when she pointed this out, it was done, but only surface mounted by the lazy builder, there were two, who then broke one of the original 1889 window panes, unfortunately for him right infront of her!

She was heard to say in a rather cutting tone of voice "Oh dear, and I don't have any old glass left" for she had a huge pile of old sash windows at the restoration studio and made a pretty penny or two out of selling the panes.

So a new pane had to be fitted, the cupboard base had to be rejigged as it wouldn't close and they didn't finish painting the window properly either, oh, how very stupid this man was.

But the very 'BEST' is outside!

For underneath the main door step are a few holes, they are less than six inches away from where they did the outside work, which has been done most beautifully, not I might add by the lazy man. And the man who did this external plaster work must have been kneeling beside these holes as he worked.

BUT.. do you think they were filled in these holes? No, of course they didn't and when she asked the lazy builder why not, he sneered at her and said "it wasn't in the specification".. tra-la-la.. silly man.

Now, as her luck would have it, the highly efficient and pleasant Environmental Health Officer is coming, of course, to inspect the works and he will, most certainly, notice these holes, he will also be shown the botched cupboard base, the unfinished interior window.. with its' unpainted putty etc, the surface mounted window locks and she also plans to ask him to investigate behind the air vent which has been placed into the fireplace in the interior wall.

What was that quotation? Ah yes.. 'Don't get mad.. get even'.

Anyway, that brings you up to date.. I'll be here until next Wednesday afternoon at this rate. She has to go to B&Q for shelving materials with which to build an extention to the bookcase upon which our cd's, dvd's and the televion live and for a selection of screws and nails, for an extremely curious thing has transpired.

Her tool box, electric drill and two transparent plastic boxes of nails and screws were put into the sitting room for safe keeping and upon opening the room the tool box and her drill were there but of the transparent boxes, there is no sign! How weird is that? Mighty weird, I call it?

So this is the 'Jigsaw', it's trying to remember which item went where in her office cupboard, which book went on which shelf but I must say BUB has been extremely helpful! For he told her how to wipe data off a hard drive before disposing of an old computer. That's leaving the flat tomorrow. And, she's giving away a printer, for you do not need two!

I'll write again when I get home. I'm longing to eat 'proper' food again, in jail they feed me bird food! Can you imagine such a thing? There's no hummus or hard boiled eggs. life's tough in this jail.

Onwards mes amis.. soon it'll be chirp time again.. our best wishes to you all.

WELL.. HELLO THERE!

Greetings Dear Readers.

It is your red bummed Congolese African Grey Parrot blog writer. I am out of jail for a few days and enjoying, with my mum, a very, very slow and lazy start to the day. It's Sunday, August 7th and most peculiar things have been happening here in deepest Knightsbridge.

Let me start by telling you the good news, in fact, the very best news. Which is that she does not have an Abdominal Aorta Aneurisym, aka an AAA, what she does have is a slghtly wider than normal Aorta. Phew.. this is, afterall, the biggest blood vessel in your body and the doctor was extremely thorough and detailed in his ultrasonic examination of it last Tuesday.

Her stress level is very high, for there has been and still is a lot, read great deal, of quite unpleasant stuff going on but we are, at this present moment in time, ok and safe.

We have had incredible moral and physical support from these friends, Tereza, Pat, Leigh, MaryLou, Myra, Debbie and Tom.  Others have been noticeable in their silence. So I'll move swiftly along but I doubt that she'll be bothering to get in touch with those who, equally, could not be bothered.

My 12th birthday, July 29th, was on the day that she was working with Messrs Pickfords at the flat, packing up our bedroom and putting it into storage. We received an email a couple of days before saying that she, who prefers to remain anonymous, remembered the 29th as being my special day! How nice was that? Seeing as no-one else remembered, it was reallyreally nice!

She is now expecting an email of a different nature, it will from the building contractor giving her a progress report on their findings at our flat. Sure enough, there was a huge area of wet plaster underneath the loose wall paper on the wall behind the cupboard, it is where they, many years ago covered up / bricked up an old fireplace.

Luckily, the house next door has just put scaffolding up right up onto their roof and our builders will be able to go up and examine the chimneys. The dodgy make-do building works, done many years ago when they converted this room, have caused this situation.

This room, our bedroom which is a big room, was the original kitchen of this 1889 house built in ans people don't realise how important it is that a house can 'breathe' to get rid of moisture, they have already discovered that the builders who did decidedly dodgy work ten years ago put in faulty airbricks.

So, will we be back in a couple of weeks time or will we be out for longer? This is a big question.

Where we are is very pleasant. Now that she has made them do everything to make it habitable! It failed its' gas inspection just as she was moving in.. WHAT a good thing I WAS in jail! The bathroom lights and basin are the only things that still need to be addressed and then it will be ok.

This temporary flat is up on a second floor, the bedroom is very light and airy, something that we can not say about our home, it's extremely pleasant to be up so high, to able to have the windows open all day long and to sleep in cool airy conditions.

But it isn't 'home'.

But when we do get home, she'll have a lot of work to do to put it back together again. For the back room is piled high to chest level with everything that came out of the bedroom cupboards. One good thing is that she will look very closely at everything and see if it deserves to go back in there again!

Nothing is 'rubbish', everything is of value but does she want it or would someone else be able and happy to have it?

Lots of work folks.. but not today. She may go to the allotments later, but first we are going to have a big amount if delicious yumyum, we had our tea much earlier.. yes, of course, it was LapySang, for most certainly we brought our most vital yumyums with us!

Onwards mes amis, onwards.. for this too shall pass.

SORRY BUT I WON'T BE POSTING AGAIN FOR A WHILE..

I am in jail and she's under a tremendous amount of stress and strain.

You all know she's waiting for the UltraSound, it is taking place on August 2nd and then they will decide to operate or not. That's quite enough to drive anyone a bit loopy.. and on the other situation.

The beastly bunch as she calls the thugs in suits who are the bullies from hell, sadly she can't have an officer from the Town Hall with her every time these men roll down her steps, so they march in and are generally quite evil..

And they've delayed the start of the building works, yet again, so this time she has taken the wise precaution of alerting her kind friend from Studio Days, he is a solicitor whose speciality, as the senior memeber of one of the citys' oldest law firms, is property law. They met two years ago when one of the thugs suggested he buy her out.. for a pittance. She said not one word but hot-footed it straight into the city.

And was told the legal stuff about surrendering a statuatory confirmed tenancy, she'd been in the flat then 39 years, now 41 years. And how much exactly her tenancy was worth.. interesting enough, the thug had suggested nothing resembling one tenth of this figure.

Friend told her to keep mouth shut.. "say not one word" he said.. "for he'll be back again and this time, we'll make up our minds if the offer is good enough" and I'll handle him for you.. besides, I know exactly who he is..

So she's alerted him that they are playing silly buggers and that she might need him to act for her. But it is all quite unpleasant and she has to keep her mouth shut (grr) and deal with it. Talk about 'ag & naus'. This means aggravation & nausea to those of you unfamiliar with Cockney rhyming slang.

Anyway, here I am, not at home.. she's got another meeting on Monday with one lot of thugs and then the surveyor thug, a two faced bastard if ever there was one, is back here again on the 21st to take photos of the room.. he'll have a shock! For rather than sit in fear, she's dusted and washed everything, bought new paint from Leylands and painted the cupboards (same colour), the bookcase and the radiator.

Everything looks fresh and clean and tidy.. which is exactly how she expects to find it when she comes back in here when they've finished the works.. but they're in for a very unpleasant shock. For behind a cupboard which is against the wall to the next house, the wall is wet, a piece of lining paper came off in her hand like as if she had only just stuck it up there.

This is the cupboard which she's emptied and which they have to move as they need to look at the plaster but they have no idea, as to yet, that it is wet. Ah well, they'll find out, won't they?

She's moving out on July 28th, then on the 29th Messrs Pickfords are coming to take away all the bedroom furniture, her bed and her clothes and keep them safe for the length of time these building works are going to take. The man from Pickfords was incredibly helpful and nice.

She's going into a flat literally just across the road in the next garden square.. a fourth floor flat but with a lift, you'll be pleased to here, as is her aorta!

Friends are being so kind. Lovely Pat is absolutely refusing to let her go to UltraSound by herself, her GP Dr. Katherine rings her regularly to see how she is coping with the stress of her bulging aorta and the building situation.. it has, afterall, been going on since last November. Which is QUITE long enough, pull your fingers out and get an f'ing move on.

A couple of people are totally ignoring everything that is going on which is odd but their behaviour recently has been 'pretty weird' to say the least.. no more shall I or will she say on them.

Lovely Mr. Tom telephoned from the hospital last night to tell us that Bob was in theatre having a bigger heart operation done.. oi vey.. and then sent us an email to let us know that Bob was well, out of theatre and smiling.. more oi veys..

So.. stay happy and healthy out there all you guys and girls.. take care of your loved ones and tell them you love them. I'll be back but when.. I just don't know. God bless you y vayo con Dios.

A BUSY DAY AT HOME..

Everything has to come out of her bedroom cupboards.. ugh.. most of the clothes are going to be packed in garment boxes and stored, the works are only for three / four weeks and she'll be working the allotments most days so she won't be needing or taking a lot of clothes with her.

But her shoes and bags etc are all staying here, so they had to be transferred into that poor back room. It gets worst by the hour! She, not so quietly, dreads the thought of the task of putting her home back together and just prays that they leave it as dust free as physically possible.

Her office cupboard had to be packed up, her fancy printer and main frame computer will stay here but the rest of the stuff has to be boxed up, likewise her books, discs and dvds, the television will be wrapped in a sheet and put next door.

The good news is.. she's under 9 & 1/2 stone! And that she's now received the date for her Aorta UltraSound. Now, if only she could sleep! But sleep, for her, is pretty elusive. Boring when you're scared and those sneaky, worrisome thoughts start whispering to your brain in the dark.

OI VEY.. is what I say!

Ok, what nice things have happened? The three sweet girls upstairs gave her a birthday tea party on Friday with two little cakes, a lemon and a chocolate. I wasn't allowed anywhere near the chocolate one but nibbled a fair bit of the lemon one which was very scrummydumptious indeed. I have never seen a cake before, they're like Golden Autumn Raspberries that I hear about but never actually get to eat!

And she had a fun thing happen on Saturday morning! She was down in the market and stopped to look at a 'junk' jewellery stall and saw.. to her absolute amazement.. a pair of Tiffany Sterling Silver hoop earrings! For no money.

Being her, she picked them up, they were very tarnished, and said "What's your best price?" The man, who hadn't a clue as to what he'd got, said "I'll take £4.00", so that's what she gave him!

She caught a bus home and cleaned them, put on different clothes and a bit of face and walked into Tiffany in Sloane Street with them and asked for a new travelling bag for her 1997 727 Fifth Avenue earrings. And asked the nice assistant to give the clasp on one of them a tweak.. they were duly tweaked and treated to a new bag..

They, therefore, were authenticated. People should do their research and not be idle! Fancy selling them at £4.00.. silly man.

Not a lot to report otherwise, we hope you're all well and enjoying your Summer, if you are having one? Ours is decidedly iffy.. we have only got another six weeks left and have yet to see any real sunshine or feel warm! But she won £25.00 on this weekends' lottery with three numbers. So that pays for a bit of gas.. yes, there have been some very cold and damp days. Very dreary indeed.

She has to take her proper camera to a Canon stockist tomorrow, it was very happily taking lots of photographs, with new batteries in it, when suddenly it said 'Change Batteries' and died.. and it won't start / go on again! Grrr.. wretched thing.

7th July, her birthday.

And greetings to you all, I did tell you in the postscript of my last post that there was another important date coming up and here it is.. aka her birthday! Route 66 kids.. work that out!

What have we got planned? A seriously important meeting with surveyors, builders etc is happening at 11.00am this morning to finalise all the plans for building works which are supposedly starting July 25th. Grim, our pretty back room is a depository, a nightmare but thank goodness we have that space.

Dearest Dean is coming with his tool kit on next Monday to fit two locks, one for her walk-in clothes cupboard where she has also put stuff and one for the back room. The doors will be covered with plastic sheeting and masking tape.

Brick dust is something you don't want to have getting onto your clothes or upholstered furniture! And there's going to be a lot of that flying about as they're taking the plaster off the walls and hacking out damaged bricks.. ugh.. our poor home. I'm in jail this morning whilst they poke about and leave doors open etc.

She's had a couple of happy days leading up to today. A lovelylovely lunch with a dear elderly friend in her home the day before yesterday, this was such a happy time for both of them.

And an equally happy day yesterday at RackSpace with Debbie, lots of lubbly-jubbly cheese  and four 6 week old kids. They are funny little people young kids and this lot were no exception! Oh.. And the sun shone!

Something is going on later today to celebrate the actual day with friends who rang last week and said "Hey, it's the 7th of the 7th next Thursday and let's do this", we're going to have supper tonight in their house and will be speaking to Fanny at some point who is in Mallorca.

Birthday tea with Tereza and the girls on Friday after she has been to Borough. Joe has the Borough Market Council meeting so she said she'll cover for him whilst he goes to that. Then it is the weekend and the week is over! Poof.. just like that, another year has gone by in a flash!

So.. we'll wait and see what the post brings! Postman and those nice men at MailBox have already given her several things relating to today.. I hope I get cards like she has! HintHint!

WE SAY WELCOME TO OUR DEAREST FRIEND.. GAYLE (MATSON).

Oh, Dear Readers, you have NO idea how happy I am! After having been given scary news yesterday about her enlarged Abdominal Aorta, who knew such a thing existed, she has had a lovely day.

Rather than sitting in a heap snivelling and dripping hot, salty wet tears onto me at home, she picked herself up out of bed at some hideously early hour, cooked me my boiled egg and took herself off to have the blood tests on an empty tumtum.. aka nil by mouth.

Then went onto the second medical appointment of the day and after that, she came home. She gave me more YumYum and refilled my swimming pool (extra large ceramic bowl full of water into which I KNOW she sneaks that anti-plucking homeopathic medicine).

She donned a waterproof jacket 'cos it was raining, are we ever going to have any sun this Summer? She plundered chilly white larder.. aka fridge.. of a large but slightly unusual tortilla and high-tailed it off to Ellie's Dairy at Borough Market. Anyone would think she works for this company!

But if you're a little bit sad around the edges AND NOT wanting to go down that slippery slope into a depressed state, you do as Liza sang and THAT, Dear Readers.. is to go to the cabaret and Borough Market with its' thousands of tourists along with charming regulars, is a Cabaret with a Capital C!

So off she went with her tortilla to see Joe and Roy, he runs the Caerphilly Cheese stall which is next door to Ellies. So what with these two nice men and lots of funny, both peculiar and haha, customers, the time flew! There was method in her madness!

She returned home in pouring rain.. it will be no more that 9 degrees tonight.. that's a bit of a damp squid for the first night of July, isn't it? Which, of course, you realise is the second of the three months that we have for Summer. The first month being June, which was diabolical.. wet and dismal beyond belief.. old Slimy Slug has been doing his worst and eating everything in sight and what he hasn't eaten, rain and wind have blown into the next door field!

A pox on this filthy British weather!

So we have had supper.. slurpy turkey with onions and garlic! And have retreated to her bed and I'm sitting in pole position on her head making sure with my birds' eye view that she doesn't slip anything into / onto my blog that shouldn't be there.

But now to the title of this post.. many years ago, in 1990, she met a lovelylovely woman called Gayle Matson. They became friends. Gayle moved back to Chicago after about six years but they've kept in touch. Letters, post / Christmas cards etc, telephone calls.. but Gayle didn't know about my blog (!!) shock horror! because she hadn't got an email address.

However, after a call that my mum made this last week to Gayle, a friend of Gayles' called Susan has come to our rescue and is allowing Gayle access to the internet through HER email address and computer until Gayle gets an email address set up.

And so here we are! Now she can read as much as she wants to about what we, my mum and I, get up to, and what is happening in London, a city that Gayle and her lovely husband Norman lived in for those six veryvery happy years in the '90s.

"Welcome dearest Gayle.. yes sweetie, we surely did have a lot of fun in that six years, did we not!"

WHERE DO YOU THINK YOUR BIGGEST BLOOD VESSEL IS?

We know.. we didn't do before but we surely do now! The thing that Valerie 'pounced' on and said was beating too strongly is her Abdominal Aorta. It splits several times taking blood from your heart downwards.. as, of course, the ventricals are the veins that bring it all the way back up.

Valerie, after pouncing, had said "go to your GP and get it checked out, best to be safe." As her GP now has enormous respect for Valerie, she listened to what my mum had to say this morning and said "Ok, let's see what she is talking about", she went straight to it and poked about a lot, saying "Humm, does this hurt, have you had any pain, etc etc."

She described what she'd been feeling and her nice doctor said "ok and she is absolutely correct, it is your Abdominal Aorta and it is enlarged, the normal size is about 2cms, yours is bigger than that, so I am sending you for an UltraSound, this is very curious as you're fit, slim (!!), don't smoke and your blood pressure and pulse are absolutely perfect, I wonder why this has happened?"

So, there we are.. again.. Valerie's hands picked something up and it is, of course, something that my mum had no symptoms /.reason to go to the medics for! Uncanny.. thank goodness Valerie had that funny feeling about my mum and got her in for that second appointment.

Busy day tomorrow, not for me. for her. She has to have several blood tests done, followed by another doctors' appointment, then she's off to learn how to use the mobile credit card charge system. Saturday and Sunday, weather / rain permitting, she'll garden at the allotment.

Some Redcurrant's should be ready to pick, she saw them about three weeks ago and they were thinking about ripening then. I wonder if there are any cherries ready! Ooh, we love a good cherry or two, that's if they actually make it home and don't get gobbled up by who know who on the way!

The second pair of scales have now gone back to Argos, one pair being delinquent.. but two pairs? So she's had a refund and bought another pair which should arrive on Wednesday at her box number.

What about our Peonies? Sigh.. we have had such gruesome weather that they may all have been blasted into the next field, it is sad to see them shredded by the savage rain and winds. At least the Roses come again throughout the season, that's the only bad / sad thing about Peonies, they don't keep on flowering. They're one-shot wonders!

But we have good news from one of the Phaelanopsis Orchids at home! For not only is she, little Miss Moth Orchid, growing another huge flower stem up from her base but she has two very long branches that have sprouted from an older flower stem in the past two weeks with lots and lots of buds on them! This is why you NEVER cut your old flower stems off!

Oh.. LookieLookie.. it is time for an early supper! So off we go to rattle those pots and pans.. turkey breast is for supper, I saw her take the meat out of the fridge an hour ago. There is also huge tortilla cooling in its' pan, half for tomorrow and half for her lunch on Saturday at the allotment.

PipPip.. I'm out-bound for YumYum HQ..

I WILL NOT ALLOW ADVERTISEMENTS TO BE POSTED AS 'COMMENTS' ON MY BLOG.

It has gone.. poof!

Someone with the 'name' of Sarah Coleman posted a long rambling comment on my last post. By 'her' grammatically incorrect usage of English, I am pretty sure that she was not English and as I'm not going to be responsible for any dodgy deals, who knows what she was trying to peddle to us, I have deleted it.

I will not allow scams of any sort to be inflicted upon you, my Dear Readers, or myself. I will only allow comments about the posts or contact from friends, followers or readers. I will not allow these people, who wish to rip us off to flog with their dodgy deals, space on my blog.

ATE EVERYTHING.. MEETS PAT.. JUMPS ON SCALES.. LOST 1/2lb!

I honestly thought that weigh-in was not happening today but Pat sent her a text message telling her something and off she went. Boots actually had her at a lb lighter, but until she gets to target, which in group is just a couple of lbs away, she'll bite the bullet and go by their scales.

Start of Wimbledon today, the weather was fine but doom and gloom are both arriving tomorrow.. sigh.. however, all is not lost, the new collection of couture fabrics have arrived and they're beautiful, as always.

She apparently caused the damage to grass trimmer herself.. grrrr? She didn't put enough oil in with the petrol.. boring! So she'll use this one until it dies and has decided to buy a new one from the friend of David, aka Master Machine Engineer and WW mender, apparently he stocks all the spare parts so will be able to mend it should it ever need repairing.

Oh Dear.. oh dear oh dear.. right from the start of us writing my blog, you've read about a wonderful and extremely nice friend of ours whom we call Wizard. She has just received a call from him, aka Rob, with not happy making news. He is undergoing emergency spinal surgery tomorrow because something has gone horribly wrong and something is doing something incredibly bad. Sigh..

As you can gather from that last sentence, she was so stunned she wasn't actually able to take in the full details. Oh dear, poor Wizard. No work for him for a long time they have said.. this is a man who rides and sails and skis. Luckily he also is an electronic Wizard and could earn a living sitting down but that ain't his style.

We will be praying for Rob tonight, in fact, she's already having more than a few words with God and some medically minded people she knows up there. For them to guide the surgeon to do his brilliant best work on Robs' back tomorrow.

Tomorrow she's off to the RA' Summer Exhibition with Tereza. Big treat, then they'll have lunch in Chinatown and cruise the supermarkets for scrummy oriental greens.. kai-lan is our favourite.

Much to do in the next few weeks, we have the date that the renovation work is starting, it's on July 25th. Now she has to get locks and mortices put into the doors of rooms and cupboards that she will be sealing up for the length of time we are not here.

Busy.. and we need to be gardening as there's lots to do but the two next days are a no-no, because of the Summer Exhibition tomorrow and because the forecast, for the next few days, is for heavy rain.. ugh.

The kitchen floor is waiting to be washed.. such an exciting life we live! We send you our regards and hope that you are all happy & healthy? We so wish Rob was.. "Dear God.. we beseech you to guide this surgeons hands and to save Robs spine.."

AND WHILST HER BLOOD IS UP.. HERE'S ANOTHER THING THAT HAS ANNOYED HER FOR MANY A YEAR!rt

Restraint of Tongue & Pen. One should not write or say things after a 'good' dinner, the three of them agreed this upstairs at dinner tonight but this is too good an opportunity to miss! When and why did the four countries start calling themselves the United Kingdom instead of Great Britain?

Huh.. answer that if you would please! Because we are not a Kingdom, as we have, as our constitutional monarch, at this precise moment and they've been there for a significant length of time, much longer than ANY political party has been in power, a Queen..

Her title is Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth 11. As in second, not eleventh. So how and where did the name Kingdom come into play? As it should be Queendom.. bear with me. Now she is going to sleep before she starts blasting several people. I am sitting on her head in the hope that she calms down a bit, what a good thing she didn't have coffee as well!

For she certainly ate everything else! Including two icecreams, goaty cheese, strawberries, cherries, a monster helping of a dish of delicious portobello mushroom, onions and chicken livers cooked with herbs in olive oil, two slices of a delicious Spanish tortilla, a sliver of tomato but not, thank goodness, in this order. You can be sure she ain't going anywhere NEAR a scale tomorrow, that's for sure!

What she's going to do now, is to switch off the electronic gadgets as we are going to have a cuddle.. infact.. I might even sleep in her bed tonight or on her shoulder.. for she left the flat at midday and didn't return home until after 22.15hrs. That's a long time to be home alone for a small grey bird.. ah.. pathos.
